Anyone need EVA-rated protective lining? We’ve got about 15 square meters left over from last week’s project. If you want it, let me know before I recycle it tomorrow.
@marikim Professor, a follow up question from this week’s seminar: I’ve reviewed the specs for the construct we’re transmitting to the Esmeralda artifact but there doesn’t seem to be much discussion of this construct’s principal.
The principal is synthetic, not unlike a monitoring daemon. We’ll cover the parameters for the principal in next week’s session.
Hold on, I’m not a construct sciences person, but monitoring daemons have their own principals, right? Does this synthetic principal have a human principal or is it synthetics all the way down?
It’s closer to the latter, and yes, this raises obvious concerns around alignment and safety, but we’ll discuss it in class next week.
As a quick explainer, consider: whom would we use as a principal? If the artifact responds with something tightly coupled to that person, that person acts as gatekeeper for knowledge meant to be shared with all of humanity.
And we will cover all of this in next week’s seminar, I promise.
Reminder: Personal items stored in common areas will be relocated to Lost and Found in Pod 2, Deck 6 after 48 hours. This includes books, datapads, and the inflatable palm tree in the Dorsal Accessway.
