@ssingh, I have a craft question: how do you know when a character you’re writing is acting “out of character”?
When their choices stop tracking with everything they’ve done before. You develop a model of a person, and the wrong sentence rings false against it.
So you keep a simulation of them running in your head.
I suppose, though it’s less clinical than that. On a good day they surprise me in ways that feel inevitable in retrospect.
And on a bad day?
On a bad day they all sound like me.
